Court bans online gambling – Online poker illegal in South Africa

August 24th, 2010

Johannesburg – The Gauteng Gambling Board has said it is illegal to gamble online, Business Day reported on Tuesday.

This followed a North Gauteng High Court judgment on the jurisdiction of online gambling transactions in the country which was handed down on August 20.

Internet operators who offer online gambling to South African residents for gain and a player or punter who takes part in online gambling would both be guilty of breaking the law, the report said.

The ruling also makes internet service providers accountable for the services as well as financial transaction providers such as banks.

According to Gauteng Gambling Board head of legal services, Lucky Lukhwareni, online casinos are now up for prosecution.

“That’s why we approached the media to alert them of the judgment which makes online casino operations illegal, and if they continue we will have them arrested and fight for conviction,” said the report.

Those entities that advertise or facilitate the advertisement of online gambling – including radio and television stations, print media and outdoor advertising agencies – will also face the law.

Persons who are prosecuted and found guilty of breach or contravention of the gambling legislation could receive a fine of R10m or 10 years in jail, or both.

Joslyn James launches website with ‘Tiger Woods’ sex texts’

March 19th, 2010

Joslyn James (pic: Splash News, Naughty America)

Joslyn James – one of Tiger Woods’ alleged mistresses – today launched a website featuring all the texts she claims the golfer sent her.

The website www.sextingjoslynjames.com carried a warning about its explicit content, as the SMS messages, allegedly sent by Tiger to Joslyn, are littered with swear words and sexual content.

An iPhone-style display allows readers to scroll through three months of messages – many of which are too graphic to repeat.

The first message, sent on 30 July 2009, is innocent, just saying: “Heading back from the course now.”

Another message 15 minutes later reads: “I will leave an envelope at the front desk under ms daniels. Your room will be 305. Get settled and let me know when you are ready to see me. I will be i n room 201. You can come down the stair well next to your room. Make sure absolutely no one sees you.”

The texts cover arranging meetings before becoming increasingly graphic a month later.

The final message, allegedly sent on 4 October, says: “Don’t ******* talk to me. You almost just ruined my whole life. If my agent and these guys would have seen you there, ****”.

Tiger Woods this week announced he will return to golf at the US Masters at Augusta next month.

Tiger Woods Apologises

February 20th, 2010

What a load of absolute garbage came out of Tigers mouth last night. He had been prepared well by his PR people but lacked the sincerity he needed to pull it off. His long pleading stares into the camera just made him look like a toss pot.

What would we say if it was Pakistan?

January 8th, 2010

Michael Vaughan has led the criticism of the England bowlers after James Anderson was accused of tampering with the ball during the third Test against South Africa.

Vaughan, along with fellow former England captain Nasser Hussain, expressed his disappointment after television footage, broadcast this morning, appeared to show Anderson picking at the quarter-seam during Newlands Test match.

South Africa have decided against making an official complaint to Roshan Mahanama, the match referee, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have confirmed that England will not face punishment. However, Vaughan said the revelations were not good for the image of the game.

“It certainly looks like Jimmy Anderson has had some kind of play on the ball,” Vaughan said. “You have to look at the world of cricket and if it was Pakistan what would we make of it? It’s a very delicate situation.”

“It’s Jimmy Anderson just picking at the ball and shining it in a certain technique which is probably more worrying,” Vaughan added. “I don’t like to see that in the game.”

The South African management voiced their concerns last night about the condition of the ball and the ability of England’s bowlers to gain reverse swing. Among their grievances yesterday were the use of boot on ball by Stuart Broad, throwing the ball on the bounce to the wicketkeeper by various fielders and the alleged lifting of the seam by Anderson.

“Stuart Broad stood on the ball, and then Jimmy Anderson collected the ball, whether it was the next over or the over after, and started playing around the area where Jimmy Anderson had created the scuff marks,” Vaughan added. “They were just trying to get the ball to reverse swing. It looks quite bad on the TV screens, I’m quite disappointed because I don’t like to see that sort of action in a game.”

Nasser Hussain, Vaughan’s predecessor as captain, was not surprised to learn of South Africa’s concerns after the footage emerged. “We’ve all been there, we’re not whiter than white, where you see the ball and think would it be nice to get nails into that, get it reverse-swinging,” he said. “But you’ve just got to leave it alone because if the opposition see you going like that to the ball they get very fidgety.

“Some cricketers of old allegedly would get their nails into it, use implements to really scrape it off and it would go very quickly. It doesn’t look like James Anderson is trying to do that.

“He’s been in the middle and he’s playing with the thing but that is right on the edge of acceptable, he probably hasn’t altered (the ball) that much, but if he does it for 30 overs he is altering the ball.”

England pull it out their arse one more time

January 8th, 2010

CAPE TOWN, Jan 7 (Reuters) – South Africa captain Graeme Smith paid tribute to England’s batsmen for hanging on to secure a draw in the third cricket test on Thursday.

“England have shown great strength of character throughout the series and we’ve had to earn every inch,” Smith said after the visitors’ final pair of Graeme Swann and Graham Onions survived 17 balls to salvage a draw and keep England 1-0 ahead in the series.

Paul Collingwood (40) and Ian Bell (78) had shared a four-hour partnership to take England to the brink of safety before the batting collapsed.

“You have to give credit to the Collingwood/Bell partnership,” Smith said. “They stuck to their game plan well and showed a lot of character.”

South Africa were highly motivated to push for victory in the final test in Johannesburg starting on Jan. 14, to square the series and retain the Basil d’Oliveira Trophy they won in England in 2008, Smith said.

“The Wanderers has had result wickets in recent years and it will probably be no different this time. We need to push for a result because a win would mean we hang on to the trophy.”

Morne Morkel bowled the final over at Onions but the number 11 managed to repeat his heroics of the first test at Centurion and protect his wicket to secure the draw.

“I just told Morne to commit 100 percent to what he was going to bowl and to give his best,” Smith said. “He’s probably carrying the whole world on his shoulders right now but I thought it was a good final over.

Proteas grind England into the ground

January 5th, 2010

Morne Morkel claimed the wicket of Paul Collingwood after lunch on the second day, South Africa v England, 3rd Test, Cape Town, January 4, 2009

Graeme Smith and Ashwell Prince amassed their highest opening stand of the series to extend South Africa’s advantage on the third morning at Newlands, but Graeme Swann struck in his second over to remove Prince for 15 in the final half-hour of the morning session to redress the balance, after Morne Morkel had secured an 18-run lead on the first innings with the fifth five-wicket haul of his Test career.

By lunch on the hottest day of the series so far, South Africa were 56 for 1 in their second innings, an overall advantage of 74. Smith was unbeaten on 22 from 33 balls, with Hashim Amla alongside him on 14, as England’s seam attack failed to find the same penetration or accuracy with the new ball that they had shown in overcast conditions on the first morning.

They did come close to making an extraordinary breakthrough in the third over of the day, when James Anderson appealed speculatively for caught-behind as Prince waved his bat at a leg-side delivery, and after a lengthy delay, umpire Harper raised his finger. The reviewed decision showed that his bat had been at least six inches from making contact, and Prince, on 5 at the time, had a let-off.

He could not, however, make it count. On 7, he inside-edged Graham Onions millimetres past his leg stump, but on 15, his luck finally ran out. Swann was brought into the attack in the 10th over and caused instant palpitations as Smith survived an lbw shout, a low edge towards slip and a top-edged sweep in the space of five balls.

Prince negotiated the final ball of his first over, but that was as far as he could go. Swann’s very next delivery trapped him plumb in front of middle, and despite the optimistic use of a review, there was no reprieve. Astonishingly, it was only the fifth delivery that Prince had faced from Swann all series, and he had been dismissed by three of them. Little wonder he left the field shaking his head.

Earlier, Matt Prior had carried the attack back to South Africa after Morkel had claimed back-to-back breakthroughs in his first over of the day, as England added 32 runs to their overnight 241 for 7 to finish their first innings on 273.

Prior, who resumed on his overnight 52, was powerless to react at first as Morkel ripped through England’s lower-order, dismissing Swann without addition to his overnight 5 courtesy of a fourth-ball lifter that took the glove and flew to Smith at first slip, before Anderson was handed the second duck of his Test career as Smith again claimed a regulation edge.

England’s No. 11, Onions, survived the hat-trick ball, but at 241 for 9, England’s deficit was still a sizeable 50 runs. Prior took it upon himself to whittle the lead away, taking on Morkel with a swished edge over the slips for four, before advancing down the wicket twice in his next over, to drive and clip a brace of very welcome boundaries.

Onions, who was limited to a handful of deliveries each over, joined the fun when he slashed outside off at Morkel and edged through Smith’s fingertips for four, but it was Prior who eventually fell for 76, as he attempted to work Dale Steyn for a single to keep the strike, but under-edged onto his stumps.

Invictus headed for an Oscar

December 9th, 2009

If you were to put your money on a movie to be nominated for the ‘Best Picture’ Oscar at The Academy Awards it would have to be the latest emotional and powerful blockbuster with Morgan Freeman called Invictus.
The movie which opens next month in US cinemas and January in Australia also stars superstar Matt Damon and is directed by Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood (see what I mean about the huge Oscar potential). Movie source IMDB gives these plot details:
The film tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team to help unite their country. Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa’s rugby team as they make their historic run to the 1995 Rugby World Cup Championship match.
Morgan Freeman has been rumoured to play Nelson Mandela in a bio film for years due to their similar resemblance and now Invictus gives us a chance to see Freeman shine as the former South African president.
I have included the newly released trailer below and it sure sends the strong message of unity just as Mandela has supported his whole life.

I cant wait for this one!

Here is the trailer again in case you missed the last post for it.
