Newbie Bowls – a great day out

December 16th, 2009

Couch Lizard watches as Cools gets in some practise

Couch Lizard watches as Cools gets in some practise

So we headed to the Mowbray Bowls Club yesterday to celebrate my birthday, and what a jol we had! You can find their details here: www.newbiebowls.com

We booked 2 lanes for a 2 hour session (which was plenty). Couldnt believe the number of people there…must have been over 100. And at R50 per head what a bargain.

Tom the guy who runs it was very efficient, had everything sorted out when we arrived we just basically pitched up and played! They have a full (and cheap) bar with Hunters at R11 and beer even cheaper which is almost as cheap as the bottle store! They also offer quarts and you can buy buckets with ice in so your drinks stay cool while you play! Awesome!

All in all an exceptional few hours off the couch  and i would recommend Newbiw Bowls to anyone who enjoys a bit of competition but doesnt want to work up a sweat!

We will definitely be going again, so hope to see you there someday

Couch Lizard eases into middle age

December 16th, 2009

Well the CL’s birfday went off without a hitch! Another year, another grey hair. After a winning session mid morning on the poker tables,  the CL hooked up with the notorious Gavin Dogwalker (he of the golfing fame) and headed over to Banana Jam for a cocktail or 4.

Mrs CL then joined us and we continued on with the party.

Then it was off to Cools’ spot for a pre dinner bakeage followed by dinner at Jakes.

Quality day I must say and the CL was spoilt rotten too on the gift front:

Audi advanced drivers course
Tickets to the Top Gear show
Books and book voucher
Biltong
Magazine subscription
Sweet jet gas lighter
Lots of wine and dessert wine
Clothes

A big thank you to everyone who got me a gift. They are much appreciated and I look forward to expending as little energy as possible at the lawn bowlslater  today.
