Shulman wins WSOP Europe

Take a look at the following line up and tell me that watching poker is like watching paint dry:

Barry Shulman, US
Daniel Negreanu, Canada
Praz Bansi, UK
Jason Mercier, Canada
Markus Ristola, Finland
Chris Bjorin, Sweden
Antoine Saout, France
Matt Hawrilenko, US
James Akenhead, UK

$30 million of winnings

Between these nine players there are eleven WSOP bracelets, 30 million dollars in total tournament winnings, and two of them are members of the very secluded November Nine group playing the WSOP 2009 Final Table in November.

Chris Bjorin, 2 bracelets and 50 WSOP cashes

Winning wouldn’t be easy for anyone of them, and it took Barry Shulman 15 hours before the last card had been dealt and he had defeated Daniel Negreanu in a very long headsup match.

Besides a coveted WSOP bracelet, the victory gave Shulman a hefty £800K ($1300K) payout.

Historic father and son thing

Barry Shulman is the owner of Cardplayer Magazine. He won a WSOP bracelet in 2001, and his son Jeff Shulman is in the November Nine where he will meet Akenhead and Saout and six others to fight out the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table.

With his father winning the WSOP-E, Jeff should definitely feel the pressure when the November match starts.

Negreanu in the money lead

As for Daniel Negreanu, he cannot be all too disappointed with his second place. The handsome $790K paycheck places Negreanu in top of the All Time Money List, before Jamie Gold who looked unbeatable there for a while after his record-setting WSOP Main Event victory in 2006.

Twelve million kudos to poker’s Mr. Nice Guy for that incredible achievement!
